Notes for WILLIAM FITZPATRICK:

From the Archives of Ontario

 A petition dated 14, Feb. 1848
"On the application of William Fitzpatrick, eldest brother and Heir-at-law
of Hugh Fitzpatrick for script in consideration of the services of his late
brother as a Private in Rank Company of the Stormont Militia during the late
 war.
The petitioner grounds his present claim on the certificaite of the Adjutant
General of Militia which issued in his favour in 1838, but his having
neglected to file the same in the office of the Surveyor General previous to
the 1st of January 1843, brings it, in the opinion of the Committee within
the prohibition of the 13 clause of the Land Act which leaves the power in
the hands of the grant prayer of petitioner. (Ref. No.25)
Memo added: During 1813 when the American Army descended the River St.
Lawrence, William was serving as Barracks Master at Fort Wellingtion.
William and Captain R. D. Fraser of Grenville Militia were ordered to
proceed to Brockville to rally the militia in repelling the invasion. At
this time Hiram Stafford of Brockville was ordered to join force but
Stafford absented himself until after the War. After the War Stafford
prosecuted William Fitzpatrick and Captain Fraser for forceably entering his
house in search of him and obtained a judgement against them. The court
ordered that damages and court costs re refunded to William and Fraser.
After the War William Fitzpatrick was in the service of the Northwest
Company and was in Indian Territory which caused delay in him receiving said
damages. The last letter he wrote regarding payment was November 1835."
.........................................................

William was a successful yeoman on valued IL Lots 12.BF and 12.1 and had wed Mary Castleman (1788-1866) in 1804. They had issue born over the years 1806-1826, and at the baptism of their Samuel on 4 Jan. 1809 at Cornwall, the godfather was ex-officer, Samual Anderson, Esq., J.P. (1736-1836).

........................................................

No evidence that William was the son of Thomas. I do not even know of any family tradition that suggest this.

William Fitzpatrick came from Virginia through Tenn. and into Floyd Co., Kentucky about 1800 with the John Fitzpatrick family. During War of 1812 he fought in Canada and was discharged at Malden, Canada. He helped survey roads into Lawrence Co. He had a water mill set up on Nat's Cr. in Lawrence Co. He and his wife are buried in the Fitzpatrick Cemetery at Richardson, Ky.
