BIRTH: William could have been born as early as Nov 1749, assuming no pre -marital sex and a nine month gestation. Based on the date of his baptism , he was probably born in early 1752 .

BAPTISM: "Feens (or Frens), Joseph and Henna - Willem" - May 7, 1752. (Fr om "New Brunswick First Reformed Church Baptisms, 1717-1820" Proceeding s of the New Jersey Historical Society, New Series, Vol XI - 1926, p 551. )

PARENTS: Both parents are named in the baptismal record and in the Will o f William French of Raritan Landing we find "To William French, son of m y brother, Joseph, 10 pounds."

PARENTAGE: That William is the child of Joseph French of Raritan Landing , NJ and his wife, Hannah Horn French, is further alleged by Mable Berr y Clark's manuscript notes which state that the list of Joseph and Hanna h French's children is in Vol 22, NJ Historical Society, p. 143. SIBLINGS: It is not yet known if the Joseph French who had a brother name d William in Raritan Landing, NJ is the father of the William, Simon, Laf ford, and Joseph French who fought in the Rev War from SC. "William and S imon French were brothers [of Lafford French and of each other] and live d in South Carolina." From "James Lewis French" by Wilna Powell Sawyer, p . 22.
