Lititz Record (Lititz, Pa.), Thursday, August 29, 1929, p.1: "William S. Gable William S. Gable, 85 years old, died Saturday evening at the home of his son, Frank H. Gable, 357 E. Main Street, after an illness of five weeks. Death was due to heart disease and complications.

Mr. Gable, who was a retired farmer, was born at Millport and lived there many years, coming to Lititz about nine years ago. He was the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Gable and was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Rothsville. One daughter, Mrs. Edward Leeking of Rothsville; one son, Frank H. Gable; four great-grandchidren survive.

Mr. Gable was a veteran of the Civil War, having offered himself to his country at the age of 18. He enlisted in the 203rd regiment, Penna. Infantry, at Millersville, September 8, 1864, and was honorably discharged June 22, 1865. He was a member of Lititz Post. G. A. R.

He was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, being confirmed at Mechanicsburg and later transfering his membership to the Rothsville Church. He was always active in the work of the church and attended it's services faithfully. Even during the last five years of his life, when at times he was scarcely able, he insisted on attending the services and was taken to them.

Mr. Gable was well known to residents of East Main Street, particularly, having had a cheering word or smile for the many who passed that way during the days of his residence with his son. He had not been in good health for some time, and for the past five weeks had been seriously ill. His wife, who was Miss Sarah Haldeman, before their marriage in 1867, died in 1917.

Funeral services were largely attended and held at the home of his son, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 and at 2 O'clock in the Lutheran Church, Rothsville. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery."
