He had died by the marriage of James in Nov 1876 Labourer at James's birth 16.3.2004 There is one William who could just fit in 1851 2200 folio 611 Fleet Street, Orrell William Gaskell h wid 60 Ag Lab Wig James s 9 Errand Boy Wig The Wigan birth is suspect though. Suggests it may be worth looking at a death for Elizabeth ,his wife sometime after 1842 and before 1851. Neither are found so far in 1861 or 71 but i guess that William may well have died and James gone to stay elsewhere 1841 Bramwell or Beawell Lane, Orrell William Gaskell 45 Ag Lab Elizabeth 40 Martha 15 ?Weaver Margaret 15 ?Weaver Elizabeth 14 Alice 9 William 6 John 3 It seems quite possible that this is correct.In the IGI it suggests that William was born about 1796 and Elizabeth about 1800 both of Wigan. In 1861 John is found as a visitor aged 23 in Kitt Green as is a James of the correct age 19 (there are no other James of the correct age in 1861 in Lancashire or indeed anywhere else)
