About William Arley Gentry
William A. Gentry, 82, of Orofino, a retired State Hospital North fireman, died at the Orofino Care Center Sunday of causes related to age.
He was born Oct. 3, 1907, at Keuterville, Idaho, to Rufus and Margaret Gentry. He grew up and attended school at Keuterville.
After his formal education, he worked as a packer for the U.S. Forest Service.
On Sept. 4, 1939, he married Helen Lorantz at Cottonwood. He farmed for his father-in-law until the couple moved to Lewiston in the 1940s. While at Lewiston, he was employed by Potlatch Corp.
In 1956, he moved to Orofino and logged until 1959, when he began working for State Hospital North as a fireman. He retired in 1977.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a communicant of St. Theresa's Catholic Church at Orofino.
A son, Ronald; two brothers, Howard and Elmer; and a sister, Claudia Dresche, died previously.
