That life is uncertain and death is sure was again impressed upon the minds of our people Monday afternoon, September 13th, when at 2:20 God saw fit to call as his own W. T.Gibbons, well known and beloved gentleman of Shirley.
Uncle Bill, familiarly known to his many friends, was born at Livingston, Tennessee, November 1, 1847, and at the time of his death was 89 years, 9 month and 13 days old. He came to Van Buren County from Overton, Tennessee County from Overton, Tennessee February 6, 1871 and located at Settlement.
Mr. Gibbons was married in Jackson County, Tennessee, to Miss Sarah A. Brown on June 28, 1868. Sarah A. Brown on June 28, 1868. To their union twelve children were born, six of whom survive, us follows: Mrs. Gennie Robinson of Shirley, Mrs. Alta Haynes of Pine Bluff, Ben Gibbons of Monette, Dock Gibbons of England, John Gibbons of Stratford, Okla., and Bryant Gibbons of Shirley.
Uncle Bill professed faith in Christ 65 years ago and joined the Missionary Baptist church at Settlement. That he was a good upright citizen and always in his dealings with his fellowship was attested by the large course of sorrowing relative, friends who attended the funeral and burial.
Besides the six children mentioned above, all of whom, the exception of Dock Gibbon, were present when the end came. He leaves to mourn his passing, his faithful and devoted companion, 23 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
