William Holmes

William Holmes was the son of John Holmes (the Immigrant) and Mary Atchley.

William Holmes was a Farmer & a Carpenter. He also served in the War of 1812.

William Holmes married first: Mary "Polly" Calfee on September 20, 1809 and after her death in 1825, married secondly: Catherine Calfee (her sister). The Calfee sisters were 2 of the 11 children of James Calfee and Jean Davis of Wythe County, VA.

William Holmes and his family lived in the part of Montgomery County, VA that is now Pulaski County. All 8 of their children were born in Montgomery County.

William Holmes and both wives are buried on a portion of their home plantation in the Old Holmes Cemetery, near Newbern, VA in Pulaski County, VA.
