About William Henry Howes
Will was born in Chesterville, ME and lived there for most of his young life. Sometime during his childhood, his parents decided to change their name from House to Howes. The reason for this is not known. When he married Winnie Russell, he moved to Jay, ME and lived in the house she grew up in until his death.
Will had his own barber shop in Jay Village, and also worked in the Riley Mill which was just across the river from where he lived. Towards the end of his life, he suffered from strokes, one of the first being in 1923.
