William Case was born in 1834 in McNairy County, Tennessee, the son of Nancy Ratlcliff and William Case, Sr.

In the early 1850’s, the family traveled in covered wagon and settled in Polk County, Missouri near the father’s extended family. William married Sarah Self January 24, 1856 near Pleasant Hope in Polk County.

She was the daughter of Lucy (Weaver) and John Turner Self.

There were six children: Sintha, Samuel Isom, Nancy J., Louisa M., Nancy Ann and John W. By 1870, the family had relocated to Arno on Beaver Creek in Douglas County. Soon after, William was widowed by the death of his wife, Sarah.

William then married Martha Jane Teal, the daughter of Robert and Matilda Teal, originally of Warren County, Tennessee but a neighbor of the widower in Douglas County. Three children were born of the union, Thomas, Cora and Melissa. The family relocated to the Capps Creek area of Barry County during the 1870’s where Mr. Case died February 29TH (sic) 1879.

Though his final resting place isn’t known, contemporaries were interred in the New Site Cemetery near Monett, including William’s brother in law, Robert R. Teal.
