About William Kerr
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Phillip Catholic Church for William Kerr, 75, of 88 Grand Blvd., who died Monday in Leila Hospital. He had been in ill health four years.
Born in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, Scotland, Mr. Kerr came to Battle Creek at the age of seventeen and except for a six year period spent in California, lived all his life in Battle Creek.
He and his brother had owned the Kerr Brothers Meat Market at 221 E. Michigan Avenue until about 1937, when he joined Junedale Markets, where he was employed until his retirement in 1962.
Surviving are his widow, the former Irene Thurtle; daughters, Sister Donna Kerr of Immaculate Heart of Mary, 112 N.E. Capitol Avenue, Monroe, principal of the St. Phillip Elementary School, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Rathbun of 155 Honey Lane and Mrs. Thomas (Beverly) Gapske of Alpena; a sister Mrs. Anna Dehn of the Kimball Medical Care Facility; a brother, James Kerr of 199 Floral Drive and seven grandchildren.
