William Leeman, was born to Abigail Bornheimer and John G. Leeman in Newcastle, Maine on May 7, 1839 (estimated). The family owned a farm in Newcastle, and the June 1860 Census lists John Leeman, 51, farmer; his wife Abigail 51; and their farmer sons: Joseph B., 25, and William H., 21; and daughters Mary C., 17, and Clara A., 11.
William married Delia Wilson of Newcastle on Oct 6, 1861 in Wiscasset, Lincoln, Maine. William's sister Mary had passed away in November of 1860 at 17, and in July 1862, his brother Joseph died at 26. William and Delia's son Joseph was born in June of 1863, and their other son Charles was born in July of 1865. Sadly infant Charles passed away 5 months later on Christmas Day and his father William died 12 days afterwards on January 7, 1866, aged 26 yrs. 8 mos.. Delia and her young son Joseph moved to Providence, R.I. soon afterwards, where she remarried and made a new life. John Leeman, his wife Abigail and their only surviving child Clara moved to a new farm in Nobleboro, Maine sometime before 1870. Clara married Frank Pullen in 1873, and in 1880 they and their two boys, Joseph Leeman and William Leeman, were living and working on their parents farm in Nobleboro.
June 1850 Census lists John Leeman and his wife Abigail living in Newcastle, Maine, with their children, Joseph (15); William H.(11); Mary C.(7); and Clarisa (1). Martha Dodge (26). a servant, also resided there.
June 28, 1860 Census for Newcastle lists John Leeman (51) farmer; Abigail (51); Joseph B. (25) farmer; William H. (21) farmer; Mary C. (17); and Clara A. (11). It lists value of John's real estate - 7000, and value of personal estate - 1000. It also lists a house next door owned by J. Leeman.
