About William Elsworth Maxwell
Son of Joseph W Maxwell & Nancy Ann Patton.
He married Anna Eliza Goddard on October 6th, 1881 in Benton Co., IN. The couple had two daughters in Indiana, Alta Mae & Mary Helen, and moved to Brighton Township, Marathon Co., WI by 1900 where daughter Mary Helen married the following year. The family, including Mary & her new husband Arthur C Higby moved to Chicago in the early 1900’s & daughter Alta married there in 1904 to John Larson. The Maxwells & the Higbys moved to Michigan not long after where their daughter Mary Helen died in 1908. The Maxwells took in Mary’s two children, Clifford Charles & Alta Anna Higby, and were living in Trowbridge, Allegan Co., MI in 1910. (The Higby grandchildren returned to Chicago after their father remarried). William & Anna also moved back to Illinois & settled in Campton Township, Kane Co., IL by 1920 where their daughter Alta & her husband were living.
