The Albany Advertiser WA Thu 19 Sep 1929; Mt Barker Pioneer's Death:

Much regret was expressed locally on Sept. 17th, when news was received of the passing of Mr. William Wallace Mitchell, J.P., that morning in Perth. It was only in the closing stages of last year that Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell purchased a picturesque home in Middleton road, Albany, to enjoy a well-earned rest, after many years' association with the Mt. Barker district.

The deceased gentleman was a son of Mr. William Owen Mitchell, of Donnybrook, and was born at Belvidere, near Bunbury, on August 7th 1858. For some years he was engaged upon his fathers' property, and then took up residence in the Mt. Barker district. He acquired the property now known as "Langton," situated on the south bank of the Hay River, 7½ miles from Mt. Barker. This he systematically developed in succeeding years, and brought to a high state of productivity.

Attention was given to sheep and fruit, and the holding was accorded recognition as one of the finest in that flourishing district. For a number of years Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Plantagenet Roads Board and always displayed a keen interest in the public welfare. He was at one time chairman of the Agricultural Society, and also held a commission as Justice of the Peace, besides being a member of the Masonic Order.

In 1884 Mr. Mitchell married a daughter of the late Mr. George Edward Egerton-Warburton of St. Werburgh 's, Mt. Barker. The widow survives. The burial took place at Karrakatta Yesterday.
