French & Indian War: William Pew Jr. served with American forces during the war. 1759, commissioned LT in the New Jersey regiment, under a law enacted 15 Mar 1759 by the NJ colonial assembly. Served under COL Peter Schuyler, New Jersey Blues, present in Canada when Montreal surrendered. [NJ Archives, IX, p 185-187; New York Mercury Paper, 30 April 1759, dateline Perth-Amboy, 28 March; New Jersey Soldiers of 1759-60, by Russell Bruce Rankin; Commissions, Book C2, Secretary of State's Office]. The newspaper article says the men "are to have the Commissions set above their Names, if they return a proper number of volunteers..." The Blues went to Albany (May 27) and Niagara (August).
