William spent his youth on his father’s farm in Iowa. In 1880, he learned telegraphy at a college in St. Joseph MO.
From 1887 to 1892 he was a clerk of court and lawyer in Indianola, Red Willow Co., NE.
He met and married Mary Ann Peterman in Indianola.
After suffering for some years from “consumption”, he returned to Iowa, separated from his family due to his poor health, and died in Maxwell, IA, presumably at the home of his mother.
