Some notes I have for William Pike (a2)

William, a Framework knitter, and family were part of Calton's party of 1820 settlers, aboard the "Albury", arrived 1820. The members of this party were unemployed and being sponsored by a committee of subscribers headed by His Grace the Duke of Newcastle, the Lord Lieutenant of the county, and organised by stock principles. They were all from Nottingham. Contributors included the Duke of Portland and other noblemen with seats in Nottinghamshire. Further info from The Settler Handbook - "A new list of the 1820 Settlers by MD Nash."

William Pike was one of the original 1820 Settlers to South Africa, arriving with his family on the ship "Albury" on 15 May 1820. He was 41 years old at the time.
