William C. Pounds was the son of William Pound and Mary Elizabeth Tune. He was born in Mecklenburg Co. VA. Married Jane Hadley (1785- ). Their children include James L. (1815- after 1870 ), Mary Ann (1816-1892), and William Henderson Pounds (1822-1900).

Sometime after Jane Hadley's death, perhaps around 1835, he married Nancy (maiden name uncertain but possibly Jones). In the 1870 census Nancy is shown with the Josiah and Sarah Chatham family. Sarah and Nancy are probably sisters.
