About William Redding

William Redding was the son of Isaac Redding and Elizabeth Herriman. He was born in Keytesville, Missouri, which is also where he married Mary Ellen Wood on November 19, 1863. By 1880, they were living in Carroll County, Missouri, until 1909, when they relocated to Ochiltree County, Texas, where William ran a farm. Then about 1921, William and Mary Ellen relocated to California. By 1930, they were living with their daughters Ora and Mary in Glendale, California.

The following obituary was published July 29, 1931, in the Chillicothe-Constitution, Chillicothe, Missouri, p. 12:

William Redding, a Former Resident, Dies in California, Passed Away…at the Age of 90 Years: William Redding passed away at his home at 1311 Alameda Avenue, Glendale, Sunday morning at 7 o'clock having reached the advanced age of 90 years, 2 months and 27 days. He had been in failing health for several years and bed fast since April. Mr. Redding was a native of Keytesville, Missouri, having been born at that place April 15, 1841. He had lived in California for the past 10 years, living for a time on a ranch on South (Alameda?) Avenue this city for some time.

The deceased is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Redding, the couple having celebrated their 67 wedding anniversary last November. The wife was formerly Mary Ellen Wood, the marriage having taken place at Keytesville November 19, 1863. Other surviving relatives include four sons and three daughters, L. B. Redding of Bloom, Kansas; Frank Oklahoma City; Benjamin this city; J. James Redding, 1751 Lake street, Glendale; Mrs. Eugenia Branson, of Oklahoma City; Miss Ora L. Redding and Mary E. Goodson, 1311 avenue, Glendale. Two children, Annie and Felix Redding are deceased. There are 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the Powell Mortuary Wednesday morning at 10:00 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. C. M. Northrup, of the Baptist church. The interment will be at the Forest Lawn cemetery. In his active life Mr. Redding followed the vocation of farming and stock raising. For more than 70 years he was a member of the Masonic lodge having been honored with a life membership in the organization a number of years ago. He lived in Missouri until 1909, when he moved to Ochiltree county, Texas, coming to California in 1921 and to Burbank in 1922. He had been a member of the Baptist church and always lived an exemplary Christian life — Burbank California Review.
