About William Richard Beck

William R. Beck was the son of Finnish emigrants Victor and Hilma Beck (Bjorkbacka). He was born in the United States and did not have to undergo naturalization; however, his military papers say he was born in Bessemer, Pennsylvania and one early census says he was born in New Jersey. The military paperwork is what is put forth here as correct. It is known that the family lived in both places due to Victor's work.

William R. Beck served in the United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Division during World War II in the Pacific Theater (at Guadacanal) and in the Korean Conflict (at Chosin Reservoir). A Master Sergeant for most of his career in the military, he retired as an officer at the rank of First Lieutenant with a career that spanned 1939-1968. After retirement, he completed the University of Florida and then George Washington University School of Law.
