Moved to Arcola, Saskatchewan circa 1905. Bill attended school, played in a band, played hockey and worked on the ranch and butcher shop. After his brother Dan died in 1916, Bill took over the butcher shop and ranch.
In 1919 Bill went to Indian Head to play hockey(paid player). He worked in Nichols Garage during his early hockey years.
In circa 1920 Bill and his brother Ab bought Mainline Motors, a garage and car dealership.
Bill purchased his brothers share in the garage and took on other partners.
