About William Rook
William Rook was originally from Swanton, Norfolk, he lodged in Leamington in 1851 and was a shoe maker.
In the 1861 and 1871 census he is shown as having married Elizabeth Anne and had several children and was still a shoe maker. The family lived at 24 Swan Street Leamington.
However in the 1881 census he became a leather seller, the family changed their name from Rook to Rooke and Elizabeth became Ann. The family had also move to 34 Clemens Street Leamington.
In 1891, only he and his wife Ann and one son William were living at the house, both Father and Son are listed as being book keepers.
In 1901 when William is 76 years old he has gone back to the leather, he is a self employed leather merchant, I believe he sold leather from his shop at 34 Clemens Street.
William had a Great Grandson called Albert who was born in a 'Shoe Shop at 34 Clemens Street called 'Rooke's" during 1916 I am guessing that after the 1901 census as well as selling leather they sold leather shoes also.
