William E. Rowan, 72, Baltimore, formerly of Cumberland and Oakland, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 2, 1926, in Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of the late Peter J. and Ada (Fleming) Rowan. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Frances Milnecki.

He was retired from Giant Food. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was Catholic by faith. He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Proctor Kildow Post 71 American Legion, Oakland, and the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine E. (Iman) Rowan; four daughters, Donna M. Buddington, Durham, N.C., Sharon E. Dawson, Baltimore, Claudia J. Balsinger, Baltimore, and Patricia L. Martin, Greenbelt; three sons, Richard L. Rowan, Tennessee, William E. Rowan, Prince George’s County, and Ronald S. Rowan, Baltimore; two sisters, Josephine Livengood and Margaret Grubbs, both of Oakland; one brother, Leo Rowan, Oakland; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, where a service was conducted earlier today, June 24, with Father Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap., officiating. Interment was in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Graveside military honors were accorded by members of the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
