William Rufus PAGE, b 17Mar1820 Hallowell, ME, d 19Jul1875 Port Said, Egypt, of dysenery,9 Sep 1870 Virginia appointed American Consul at Port Said, Egypt (1871-74) and 21 Jun 1860 Jerusalem, Turkey (1860-61). Home still standing on Summer St., Hallowell, ME., Mr. Broadbent, Vice Consul at Port Said, his son-in-law, was the guardian of William Page's children, said he died of Dysentery. 1856, William and wife J. C. Page sold for $1836 lot in Gosport part of Portsmouth, VA to Samuel L. Wilson and William H. Wilson. The lot was bounded northwardly by Harrison Street, westwardly by Crawford Street, southweswardly by Randolph Street and eastwardly by the Elizabeth River. At least part of which sale was to pay the debts of Page & Allen (comprising William Rufus Page and Amos L. Allen) to the Bank of VA. Letter from Rufus K. Page June 18, 1861 states to Lincoln-Johnson Administration that his son had married Miss Churchill in Constantinople in 1848. He also referred to her brother Alfred and said they were children of the British Consul in Constantinople.
