David,
My source says Will Scarbrough and Alice Petrie had two children, Albert Sidney and Henry both born in Oklahoma. Will left Alice and later notified Albert that he had remarried and had six other children. Last known address Willow Springs, MO. Albert and Henry lived with an Uncle with last name of Hall. Albert was later taken in by the family of Lace Biggs in Palmerville, TN. Henry was taken in by the McClains of Austin Springs, TN. If this leads anywhere please let me know. Thanks.
Ena

This information came from Henry Scarbrough, Son of Albert.

Lacie Biggs lived in Palmersville, TN which is North of Dresden on Hwy 89.
Austin Springs is North of Palmersville and just South of the KY State line on Austin Springs Rd.

William H. Scarbrough marr my great grandmother, Martha Evaline Deaton Smallwood on 09/06/1908. William and Martha lived together when they were unmarried and had a son, Grover, born 1905. They had another son, Samuel on 08/05/1914. Martha died on 12/12/1914 leaving William with at least my grandfather, Grover and Samuel to raise. On 10/14/1915, William marr Virginia Orra Law, widow of David Lee Wright and she brought a son with her.

I also have James L. and Mary J. Hall Scarborough as the parents of William.
I was just in Mountain Grove and drove out to the Pine Grove Cemetery in Willow Springs where James L and Mary J. are buried. There is a nice tombstone for them but no dates. There is a civil war stone for James stating he was a private in Co A, 8 Mo Infantry, Confederate States Army,
1842 - 1914. Martha Deaton Smallwood Scarbrough is buried beside them.
Some one told me William died in Seymour, Webster County, Missouri, I have not confirmed this. Maybe not the hardest of proof you were looking for but pretty good circumstantial evidence!

I remember meeting Samuel when I was a kid and I have corresponded with a daughter of his. How are you related to this group? Hope this has been of some help.

John Frederick Scarbrough states this James is not in the James Grantzer Scarbrough line. There have been three other people that states he is. This remains questionable because I have not been able to prove either way.

sorry - copied wrong text --- "William H. not married Martha E. Deaton, they had two sons, Grover and Sammy Lee. - proven

Martha married 1st to Joe Smallwood (not sure of the first name) and they had one son and two daughters.

William married at least 3 times

Grover was a Scarbrough and not a Smallwood. He was born 1904, the illagitamate child of Martha Deaton and William Scarbrough.

He had a son named Grover and they both died within a year of each other, both in car accidents due to drinking.

You are saying that the two children of William and Martha: Grover and Sammy Lee, were both born out of wedlock? YES

Martha Eveline /Deaton/ daughters --- their father was Joseph /Smallwood/

The girls were taken by the county because the family was too poor to take care of them, according to county officials. They were put in an orphanage and hired out as domestic help. The Story goes that if the customer took more liberties than to have his house cleaned, all he had to do was pay a little more money.
