About William Thomas Sampson Smith, Jr.
Son of W. T. Sampson Smith, Sr. and Dorothy Bostwick (Campbell) Smith
"... His great-great-great grandfather was Col. Samuel Campbell, revolutionary war hero and an early settler of Cherry Valley, whose youngest son Robert moved the family to Cooperstown at the close of the 18th century where the family maintained a principal residence at 50 Lake Street for nearly 180 years. He attended the Buckley School in NYC and the Forman School in Litchfield, Conn. Descended from a long line of Navy men, including his maternal grandfather, Admiral William T. Sampson, the Spanish American War hero, Sam Smith enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 at the close of WWII and later re-enlisted for service in the Korean conflict, during which time he earned the Korean Service Medal with two stars and the United Nations Service Medal. While stationed in Tokyo, he purchased and operated the 202 Tomashi Company, an entertainment concern that he ultimately gifted to his employees upon his return to Cooperstown at the end of the hostilities ..."
