On May 16, 2003, at High Cedars Golf Course in Orting, WA, a white linen luncheon was held in the Club House to honor Bill and celebrate his life. Many relatives, friends, and former co-workers were among the 100 people in attendance. A photo history of Bill's life was present as were his well-used left-handed golf clubs. (Bill was right handed, but golfed left-handed.) His grand-daughter, Hayley Jacobs, sang Amazing Grace. His son, Martin Smith, delivered the eulogy and lead a champagne toast to Bill. On November 28, 2003, a portion of Bill's ashes were interred next to his 2nd wife, Charlotte, in the Buckley Cemetery. Because Bill wanted to have the last laugh on his least favorite hole at Sunbird, he had instructed Joni to scatter the remainder of his ashes into the sand trap of Sunbird's 9th hole. |
