About William Alexander Smith
Born in Bath County, Va., on June 9, 1852, he was aged 74 years, one month. On December 6, 1871, at Covington, Va. he was united in marriage with Nancy E. Huddleston. In 1871 their family came to Nebraska, locating at New Helena (near present day Merna). The family moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1891 and for the past 30 years has resided in the present home on East Seventh street. For many years Mr. Smith was an employee of the B. & M. railroad, retiring from service in 1923.
