Biography

From http://users.rcn.com/lsimms21/tsdescent.html

William Sims Sr. was from the Island of Antigua, and was the son of Thomas and Amy Bridges. William and several of his siblings had moved to Antigua 68 from Poundi[s]ford, Somerset, England, and are identified in the church and probate records of both Antigua and Somerset.69 In the 1670's and 1680's William and his brothers George and Richard went into the American Colonies. Richard returned home to England where an estate had been set up for him, but George and William settled in southeastern Virginia in the area of the Isle of Wight [County],70 and Nansemond County71 area. William moved north from there, and received a land grant in New Kent County72 where he settled with his family. William died there in 1726.

William married twice. His first wife, Mary, was the Mother of his older four sons. She died early in 1687 in New Kent County. [4] We believe he married soon thereafter to a lady named Francis who is mentioned in the Saint Peter's Parish Register after the death of William. [5] Francis gave birth to William's three younger sons.

William Symes, Sr, 'dyed' in New Kent, Feb 17 1725-6, according to an entry in St. Peter's Parish Register in the State Library in Richmond; and we have found that he must have been the father

  1. of a daughter 'Ann',
  2. a son William and
  3. a son Thomas,

just as had William Symes, seventh son of Thomas Symes of Bawick, Somersetshire

Based on the above, the William that died Feb 1725/26 in New Kent was not the son of Thomas of Somerset, England
