- .... Among these were a letter from Cranmer to Joan Wilkinson, silkwoman and widow of the mercer William Wilkinson (d.1543), urging her to leave England, and another of farewell from Hugh Latimer. She had visited Cranmer, Hooper, Latimer and Ridley while they were in prison, and she died in exile during Mary's reign. In her will Joan left all her books, of which John Hooper (burnt 1555) had had the use in his life, to Richard Chamber 'to the proift of Christ's church', one small aspect of her corncern for the exiled protestant communities in Germany and Switzerland. .... etc. _______________
