WILLIAM W. WILLIAMS, PROMINENT MANY YEARS.
Wm. W. Williams, the oldest man in Warrensburg died Tuesday night at about 8 o'clock, of old age. Mr. Williams was 87 years old on June 16 and he was counted the oldest person in Warrensburg by about a month. He has been feeble & ill for about a month and his death was expected. His wife, died about five years ago and all his friends, who knew his love for his wife, did not expect to see him live a month after her death. MANY YEARS PROMINENT Mr. Williams was in his time one of the most promient men of Warrensburg. For 30 years, he was road commissioner or Justice of the Peace and he held the laatter office for 20 successive years, retiring only two years ago and being succeeded by his son John. Mr. Williams came to Warrensburg when the town was first started and he has seen the rise and growth during all its existance. Before he came to Warrensburg he was a deputy sherriff of Dewitt Co. but he did all the sherriffs work, because the sherriff was an invalid. HIGHLY REGARDED Mr. Williams had little school education but his opinions were always respected and accepted as being solid. After his death many of the prominent men of the town were talking about him on the street, and each told a good quality of Mr. Williams. There are six surviving children, 3 by his first wife and 3 by his second wife. All of the children are married and well to do. Not all are living in Warrensburg. The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock Thursday morning from the Church of God of Warrensburg. The body will be buried in Illini Cemetery.
