An inventory of his estate was taken in Jul 1697 and the estate was divided among his 10 children: William, George, Josiah, Daniel, John, Joseph, Mary, Sarah, Margaret and Rebecca.
15 Apr 1689 On this date William Wood wrote his will: "I William Wood of the towne of Dartmouth in the Cou [ torn ] in New England being through the mercy of god in pfect [ torn ] memory yett calling to mind ye uncertainty of this transitory life Do thearfoar for ye settling of my temporal estate make ordaine + declare this my Last will + testament Revoaking all former + other will or wills by me made + that this my Last will shall Abide + Remaine firme and s+ai [ illegible ] in manor following,

The original will, badly mutilated, is still preserved, but it was not accepted for probate. We find no trace of the deed to William, Jr., mentioned as having been written on the same day as the will. Martha, who was to have been executrix, evidently predeceased her husband. The problem of William, Jr.'s having or not having an heir was soon solved; for his first child was born six months after the date of the will. Perhaps he was then living on Long Island - as he certainly was for a time somewhat later - and so not in close touch with the folks at home.
10 Feb 1697 William and George Wood, the oldest sons, were appointed administrators, bonds of £800 being given by Thomas Wood of Swansea, the deceased's brother; Thomas Mallet of Newport, his son-in-law; and Increase Allen of Dartmouth.
