About William J. Wray
The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant William J. Wray, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 July 1864, while serving with Company K, 1st Veterans Reserve Corps, in action at Fort Stevens, Washington, D.C. Sergeant Wray rallied the company at a critical moment during a change of position under fire.
