She lovedsocial contact and was not happy unless she had a full diary. During WW1 she worked as shorthand typist for an electronics company in Woolwich. She and Wallace were guide and scout leaders in East Ham. She didnt work until after they moved to Romford when she worked in Wallace
s office. She and Wallace used to visitthe family in Germany. When they retired they moved to Hockley to be near the family. They had a very modern bungalow built (Nanny loved modern things). The garden was 300 feet long and they both looked after it. Nanny was a talented flower arranger and they had a good social life in Hockley. When Wallace died in 1976she stayed in the bungalow until her daughter moved to Norfolk when she went tolive with them. She continued to be active and at the age of 90 took herself offon holiday alone. After falling and breaking a hip she had to go in to a home where she actually enjoyed the attention. She made her 100th birthday and received her telegram from the Queen. She retained her sense of humour and still couldmake you laugh.
