There is an Alexis Grime in the naturalization records of Stark County,Ohio of 1809-1852.
A June W., age 68 from France, is listed with him in 1860 census. Is this a second wife? BIOGRAPHY: Flory History and GenCirles: Alexis Grim was a cobbler for Napoleon and his soldiers at Versailles; where Napoleon and his wife, Josephine, lived in their beautiful chateau. His wife was a cook for the soldiers. Alexis sang each Sunday in a church attended by Napoleon and his wife Josephine. When the twin girl's Mary Jane and Mary Ann were born Josephine took a real interest in the oddity. Josephine had an attendant bring them to the palace everyday so she could play with them and watch them grow. She furnished all their matching clothes, and carried them to and fro in satin lined baskets. Food was provided for the family so the girl's would be well-nourished. The family came to Ameriaca possibly between 1840 and 1850 with wife and five children to join oldestson Peter who had preceded them by three years. On the voyage over a terrible storm arose and Alexis became sick. His twin daughters, Mary Jane and Mary Ann, hurried from his room to go after broth for him, but on the way back Mary Jane was washed overboard by a huge wave. Mary Ann saw her snatch at the rope rail and miss, but was unable to be of any help. In their concern over the storm her death was hardly mourned at all; for all of them expected to be with her before the voyage was over. Not until their arrival in New York, six weeks later, was its' significance realized. Ohio had to be a rude awakening for the affluent family. He filed for naturalization in Wayne County, Ohio between 1809 and 1849. 1860 census: Farmer with $300 real estate and $100 personal property. 1870 census: Common laborer and living with son Jean Pierre and family. 1880 census: Shoemaker living alone.
