Biography

Birth

Yetmercy Howland was born on 11 March 1712/13 in Bristol, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] Baptism

Yetmercy Howland was baptized on 5 August 1723 at the First Church of Christ in Bristol, Bristol County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] Marriage

The intention of marriage between Yetmercy Howland, of Bristol, and Isaac Palmer, of Little Compton, was declared on 18 September 1731 in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island.[2] Then, Yetmercy Howland married Isaac Palmer on 17 October 1731 in Bristol, Bristol County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] Isaac was the son of John and Elizabeth (Richmond) Palmer.[1] He was born on 14 Jan 1701 in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island Colony and died before April 26, 1732.[1] A purpose of marriage between Mr. Nathaniel Howland of Plymouth and Yetmercy Palmer of Bristol was recorded on 24 November 1733 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[3] The intention of their marriage was declared on 18 September 1731 in Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island. Then, Mrs. Yetmercy Palmer married second, Nathaniel Howland on 6 December 1733 in Bristol, Bristol County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[1] Child

Yetmercy Howland and Isaac Palmer had no children together.[4] Yetmercy Howland and Nathaniel Howland had one child together as follows: Nathaniel Howland (1735 - 1736)[5] Death

Mrs. Yetmercy Howland died on August 8, 1737 in Bristol, Bristol County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] Burial

"In Memory of Mrs. Yetmercy Howland ye Wife of Mr. Nathaniel Howland Decd. August ye 8th. 1737. in ye 24th Year of her Age", and she was buried at East Burial Ground in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island Colony.[6] Intriguingly, the Howland coats of arm was engraved at the upper part of her gravestone, retaining much original design of Howland coats of arm that was granted in 1584 by Queen Elizabeth, beginning with Bishop Richard Howland in Peterborough, England. The original design of Howland coats of arms did have two black bars below three black rampant lions at the top on a silver shield that perfectly matched the design of Howland coat of arms on her gravestone. Unfortunately, her two gravestones have deteriorated quickly and sustained much damage, but apparently they were violently displaced since 2002. Her original gravestone was located at East Burial Ground in Bristol, Bristol County, Rhode Island. The replica of her gravestone was located at the area of Jabez Howland House in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Rhode Island.
