About Zaccheus Colby

Reverend Zaccheus COLBY was born on 10 MAY 1749 in Newton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. He was baptized on 31 AUG 1751 in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. He was living in 1780 in Pembroke, Merrimack County New Hampshire. He was living in 1803 in Chester, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. He died on 10 AUG 1822 in Chester, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. He has Ancestral File number 18GS-B02. Zaccheus served an apprenticeship at tanning and currying with Col. John Calfe of Kingstown. After he became of age he fitted for college a Dummer School at Byefield, and grad. at Dart., 1777. He married Mary Calfe, daughter of his former master. He was settled as a minister in Pembroke, 1780, and his children were all born there. It is said that he was once offered a Professor's Chair at Bowdoin, but he declined it.
Mr. Colby lived in Chester on Gov. Wentworth's farm of 250 acres.
