"Gus" is listed in the 1860 Horry County Census as being 3 years old and in the household of Frederick Floyd. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZTZ-7YF
https://casetext.com/case/floyd-v-montgomery-lumber-co This case carried before the SC Supreme Court in January 1919 lists children of Frederick and 1st wife Susanna Floyd (with the exception of Samuel who died before the suit was brought). It is noted that second wife Nancy Floyd had seven children - two of them listed in court documents - Lillie Floyd who brought the suit and Johnson Floyd who provided testimony.
Nancy Floyd, Frederick's second wife was the daughter of Alfred P. Floyd, brother to first wife Susanna. Nancy was sent by Alfred P. to the home to take care of Susanna and the children during Susanna's long illness that took her life. Frederick married Nancy soon after Susanna's death in 1859. Nancy and Frederick are listed in the household as the only adults in the 1860 census.
