This is the Zerubbabel named in the Gospel of Luke. Do not confuse him with Zerubbabel, the Governor of Judah.
Please do NOT, under ANY conditions merge this profile for Zerubbabel, with the other one (Zerubbabel), who was the first Exilarch, and the great-grandson of Jechoniah, the next to last King of Judah.
According to Luke 3:27, THIS Zerubbabel was the 20th generation ancestor of Jesus.
While traditionally these are the same person, there is NO way to reconcile the two very different genealogies. The rest of the lineage of Jesus, as written in Luke, is continued through the other Zerubbabel. This was done because that other lineage makes more historical sense. This lineage here, would make Zerubbabel completely irrelevant to the Throne of King David, unlike the other lineage which makes him a direct immediate heir to this title.
