The origins and genealogy of Anscario's family are not yet fully clear. However, according to the latest studies on the subject, the father was an Amedeo, count of Langres, who married a sister of that Lamberto, count of Nantes who, who came to Italy around 863 {typo836}, was the father of Guido I of Spoleto (841-868) and ancestor of the future protector of A. in Italy, Guido king (889-894). A. therefore had family ties with Guido king, but he was not his brother as was believed for a long time on the basis of an erroneous interpretation of a passage by Liutprando.

Non sono ancora del tutto chiare le origini e la genealogia della famiglia di Anscario. Tuttavia secondo gli ultimi studi sull'argomento il padre fu un Amedeo, conte di Langres, che si unì in matrimonio con una sorella di quel Lamberto conte di Nantes che, venuto in Italia intorno all' 863 {typo836}, fu padre di Guido I di Spoleto (841-868) ed avo del futuro protettore di A. in Italia, Guido re (889-894). A. ebbe quindi legami di parentela con Guido re, ma non ne era fratello come per lungo tempo si credette sulla base d'una errata interpretazione d'un passo di Liutprando.
