Samuel Pepys PRS, MP, JP, English naval administrator and Member of Parliament who is now most famous for the diary he kept for a decade while still a relatively young man

He was commited to the Tower for alleged complicity in the popish plot in 1679. He was elected M.P. in 1679 in Harwich. He was employed as Secretary of the Admiralty (reinstated) in 1684. He was named President of the Royal Society in 1684. He retired (forced into retirement) on ascension of William III in 1689. He was mentioned in the will of his cousin Charles Pepys on 6 Feb 1700. Marriage: according to the Diary Samuel and Elizabeth celebrated 10th October as their real marriage it is beleived they probably had a secret religous ceremony before the civil wedding.

	 	 	 	Samuel married Elizabeth de St. Michel, daughter of Alexandre le Marchant de St. Michel and Dorothea Kingsmill on 1 Dec 1655 in St. Margarets, Westminster, London, England. Elizabeth was born on 23 Oct 1640 in Bideford, Devon, England. She died on 10 Nov 1669. She was buried on 13 Nov 1669 in St. Olaves Hart St., London, England. 

At 23 he (Samuel Pepys) married Elizabeth St. Michel, daughter of an Huguenot gentleman (Alexander Le Marchant De Saint Michel) who had come over to seek (without success) renewed fortune in England. Elizabeth was 15 beautiful and penniless. Her mother claimed to be descended from the Cliffords, Dukes of Cumberland. Her maternal Grandmother was Dorothea Clifford daughter of Sir. Conyers Clifford Governor of Connaught. whose family had been settled in Kent since the reign of Richard II. AB.
