Beloved Son of Alfred Bosworth and Polly or Sally Barber Child. Beloved Husband of Eliza Jane and Mary Malinda Curtis Child. He was one of the early settlers of Weber County and was one of its most highly respected Citizens. He was on a horse coming back from the last harvest of October when a snake startled one of the horses and he fell and broke his neck. Johns strong spirit helped him linger on for a few months until he died He was buried in the child family plot. John and his three other brothers established and ran a store between 24th and 25th streets on the west side of the street in the middle block. Their store had general merchandise which included clothing. Their store was very sucessful and was the first store in Weber County. He took supplies by wagonload to the plains for the saints nine diffrent times which had been called to do so by the Church Leaders. The child family planted crops where the Union Station and Railroad Yards now stand. A sod wall was constucted on the west side of the city of Ogden to protect the settlers from the indians. The street in front of the wall is now Wall Avenue. Just east of Wall Avenue between 24th and 25th streets the child family settled and built their homes. The street is name on their behalf and is known as childs avenue and is in the old section of Ogden Today. He was a true pioneer. Weber County Would not be where it is today without John Lonson Child.

From Dr. Paul Child: John L. Child married Eliza Jane Curtis in 1850 and had Sara Ann, next John C. Child and the rest of the children except two. Mary Malinda Curtis was the 2nd wife of John L. Child b. in 1839 age 12 in 1851, living in Pigeon Creek, Kanesville, Iowa with Uriah Curtis. She went with Uriah Curtis to Parowan area and lived there until 1855/6 when the Ogden settlers were allowed to move out of the forts (Mound Fort). In 1856, she came and lived with John L. and was married to him in the Endownment House. Both wives were endowed and sealed to John L. in April of 1857. Mary Malinda only had two children: Emma Caroline Child

b. 22 Sep, 1861 and Pheobe Pauline Child b. April 1863. All the other children are Eliza Jane's children.
