Daniel was 22 when he and Mary got married. He was a farmer but during the financial panic of 1835, he lost his property and had a difficult time. He and his sons cut timber for a livelihood while his wife and some of the children moved to Pennsylvania where she and her oldest daughter worked in a cotton mill to help support the family.

Finally, Danial and his older sons traveled to Illinois to seek employment. While there they met the missionaries, and in 1839 they joined the Church. When the family again got together in New Jersey, Mary and the older children were baptized.

It took the next seven years for the family to save enough money to join the saints. In St. Louis they were told the saints had been driven out of Nauvoo, and were told to join them in Council Bluffs. They arrived there in May 1850 where they settled in Kanesville. They lived there for two years. Their oldest daughter kept a journal of their travels.

After arriving in Utah, Daniel moved his family to Provo where they lived until 1853, when they settled in Payson. From there they moved to Mt. Pleasant, where they lived most of their lives.

In April 1880, their son Joseph took his parents to the St. George Temple where they were albe to do some temple work. Daniel was 80 years old. Again the next year, they went back to the temple to do more work.

Daniel was a farmer, Indian War veteran, and was always active in the church.
