About Samuel Richard Thurman

Samuel Richard Thurman (1850 - 1941), son of William Thomas Thurman (1819 - 1851) and Mary Margaret Brown (1825 - 1915), was born 6 May 1850 at Hodgenville, Larue County, Kentucky; he died at the age of 91 on 12 July 1941 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. He married (1) Isabella Karren (1856 - 1935) on 6 May 1872 at Salt Lake City, and (2) Victoria Adelaide Hodgert (1857 - 1945). He emigrated to Utah in October 1870.

Samuel Richard Thurman was an LDS Seventy; missionary to England 1890-92. County attorney for Utah county; mayor of Lehi; member of territorial legislature and of both constitutional conventions; assistant USA district attorney under last Cleveland administration; one of first Democratic nominees for supreme bench after statehood of Utah. Utah State Supreme Court Justice, 1917-1928, Chief Justice 1927-28. Lawyer.
