About William Henry Buck

Obituary: William Henry Buck, 82, pioneer of West Weber, died at four-fifteen a.m. today at the family home 1046 Capitol, following a long Illness. Mr. Buck was born in Hucknell, Notts, England, Jan. 12, 1861, a son of Charles and Anna Chantry Buck. The family came to Utah in 1866 as L. D. S. converts. He moved to Ogden five years ago. In 1882 he married Rebekah Chadburn in the Salt Lake L.D. S. Temple. She died in Taylor, April --, 1898. He married Flora Buck Aug. 19, 1898, in the Salt Lake Temple. (NOTE: Married West Weber, Utah, sealed Salt Lake Temple, 1899.) He served as chairman of the genealogical committee for the Taylor Ward for a number of years. He had been active in Temple work during the past five years. Survivors include his Widow and 10 sons and daughters: Mrs. Hannah R. Cottom, Charles Henry Buck, Sarah Ida Varney, Mrs. Ruth Olive Walwork, all of Ogden; Mrs. Priscilla Cragun and Miss. Irene Buck of Ogden; William E. Buck of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Elsie Porter of Morgan; J. Harold Buck of Taylor and Lewis Buck of Tremonton. Services will be conducted Monday at one p.m. in the Taylor Ward chapel by Bishop Bradley J. Paul of Ogden Twelfth Ward. Friends may call at the family home Sunday from three p.m. and Monday until twelve-thirty p.m. Burial will be in West Weber Cemetery under direction of Lindquist and Sons' mortuary. Mr. Buck had fourteen grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Eight(sic) of his grandsons are now serving with the U. S. armed forces. Funerals. Services for William Henry Buck, 82, pioneer of West Weber, were conducted Monday afternoon in the Taylor L. D. S. Ward chapel by Bishop Thomas L. Clarke. Prayer at the residence was offered by Bishop Bradley H. Paul of the Ogden Twelfth ward. Invocation and benediction were pronounced by James J. Gibson and E. Samuel Hadley Jr. Prelude was played by Gwin Griffin and vocalists were Mrs. John Blanche, Mrs. Boyd Hancock, Mrs. Jay Gibson and Roy Hunter, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Gibson. Speakers were former Bishop W. H. Jardine, James B. Hunter, Heber B. Hawkes, Bishop Paul and Bishop Clarke. Burial was in West Weber cemetery. Bishop Clark dedicated the grave. Besides his widow and 10 sons and daughters, survivors includs two brothers and a sister. Joseph Buck of Burley, Ida., Nephi Buck of Ogden and Mrs. Slenia Morrison of Heyburn, Ida; 30 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
