Thurston Simpson, born December 11, 1808, in Norway, came to Utah, September 24, 1848, in the Heber C. Kimball company. He married Mary Sophia Barlin in 1841 in Iowa. She was the daughter of Hans Barlin of Norway. Mary was born March 7, 1818. Their child John was born January 12, 1842, in Lee county, Iowa.

John came to Utah with his father, and married Mary Christensen in 1861 in Salt Lake City. She was the daughter of Jens Christensen and Sophia Peterson, and was born April 6, 1844. The family resided in Salt Lake City and Kamas, Utah.

Thurston Simpson was a missionary to Wisconsin in 1855; and was a Seventy, and a Farmer. He died May 2, 1889.

John Simpson and Mary Christensen Simpson's children were: Joseph John, born March 25, 1862, who married Alice Murphy in 1901; Mary Sophia, born December 17, 1863, who married Leonard Osborn; George B., born September 1, 1866, who married Alice Woolstenhulme; Thurston, born May 29, 1860, married Philinda Pace in 1898, married Angeline Turnbow; Edward L., born December 23, 1872, who married Mary Ann Burbidge, divorced May 1908; James, born July 1, 1875; Sady born April 18, 1878, who married Ebenezer Johnston in 1907.

John Simpson later married Elizabeth McNorton in 1911 in Salt Lake City, who was the daughter of James McNorton and Elizabeth Shaw, Pioneers of 1853, in the Appleton Harmon Company.

John was a high priest, and a veteran of Black Hawk war, a farmer and stock raiser.

Thurston Simpson joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He received his patriarchal blessing on 2 August 1845 at Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, by William Smith. He received his endowment on 6 February 1846 in the Nauvoo Temple. Thurston was ordained a seventy. He arrived in Utah on 24 September 1848 with the Heber C. Kimball company. He served as a missionary to Wisconsin in 1855. In 1860 he was a farmer at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, and had a household of four, a real wealth of $300, and a personal wealth of $150. He later affiliated with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Per the 1850 U.S. Federal Census for Salt Lake City, Thorston Simpson, 40, a farmer, was living with wife Mary Sophia, (born in Norway) 33, and children, Mary Jane, 11, John, 9, Christiana, 7, and Thorston, 5. Also in the home was an Andrew Peterson, 23, who was working as a miner. Thorston valued his property at $300. he was born in Norway, as was his wife. Mary Jane, John, Christiana and Thorston were all born in Missouri.

Per the Seventy Quorum Membership Records from 1835-1846, Thorson, Thorsen, Thurston or Thoson Simpson was born in 1808 in Norway, the son of Sahan Connesian and his mother was Guineal. He married Mary Sophia Barlin, was endowed in the Nauvoo Temple February 6, 1846, and died in 1889.

A U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, showed that Thurston Simpson, born about 1808, arrived from Canada in 1848 in Utah. The source of this information was Kate B. Carter, compiler of "Heart Throbs of the West", Salt Lake City, Daughters of Utah Pioneers. "Pioneers of 1848", Vol 9 (1948), pp. 469-521, page 510.

Utah, Compiled Census and Census Substitutes Index, 1850-1890, showed that Thurston Simpson was living in Salt Lake City, 15th Ward, Salt Lake County, in 1859 per the database: Utah 1859 Tax List Index.

In the 1860 census for Salt Lake City, Utah, listed were Thurston, 52, wife Anna Sophia, 49, (born in Denmark), Mary S., 18, and John S., 18. Mary was born in Denmark, and was the son of Anna and her first husband, Jens Christianson. John was born in Iowa, and was the son of Thurston and his wife, Mary Sophia Christensen,

The 1870 census for Rhodes Valley, Summit, Utah, showed Theodor Simpson, 61, living with Anna (Erickson) Simpson, 35, (born in Sweden). He was working as a farm laborer and she was keeping house. Next door was Thurston's grandson, Joseph Simpson, 28, (son of John Simpson), a farmer, and his wife, Martha, 26, with their children, Joseph, 8, Martha, 6, George, 4, and Thomas, 1.

By 1880 they were living in Peoa, Summit, Utah, and were listed in the census as Thurston Simpson, 78, a farmer, and wife, Anna, 45. Thurston Simpson passed away May 2, 1889, in Kamas, Summit, Utah, and was buried in the Kamas Cemetery.

On Find A Grave.com, one of his wives was listed as Sophia Ann Mickelsen, born July 11, 1811, in Denmark, who passed away October 16, 1863, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. She was the daughter of Peder Michelsen and Ane Kirstine Hansen.
