Frieda Hirshberg

HIRSHBERG, Frieda (nee Zbarsky). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frieda Zbarsky Hirshberg on Thursday, October 8, 2015 in Ottawa. Frieda was born in Montreal in 1926 to Eva Hopkins and Jacob Zbarsky, both immigrants from Odessa, Ukraine. She studied dress designing in New York City and worked at that career in her hometown. She was wed to her beloved late husband Lester Bram Hirshberg in 1956. Besides being a devoted wife and mother to Tena and Ian Stupp, and Eric and Andrea Hirshberg, she kept very busy running the neighborhood elementary school library as a volunteer for many years and later worked in retail. She was the youngest of four children: Brother the late Louie Zbarsky (the late Judy), and sisters Maita (the late Mack Kaufman), and Ruth (the late Ben Berenbaum). She relocated to the Ottawa area later in life. She will be profoundly missed by her children, grandchildren Zachary, and Matthew and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean-Talon St. W. on Sunday, October 11 at 10 a.m. Burial at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 1250 ch. de la Forêt. Shiva at Ruby Foo’s on Sunday following burial, continuing Monday in Ottawa and Toronto. Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Frieda you will be ever in our hearts and never forgotten.
