Ben's footstone shows his date of birth as March 12, 1899, but his naturalization file lists it as Dec. 22, 1901. His sister, Rachel Kaplan's footstone lists her date of birth as Feb. 25, 1899, two weeks before Ben's footstone, making the date claimed in his naturalization file more plausible.

The naturalization file of Solomon Safran indicates a birth on the 27th day of February, 1904, in Arbora, Bukovina, Austria. This became Romania, and is now Arbore, in northern Romania, 25 km northwest of Suceava.

It is a mystery why there is a birth record indicating a birth on the same day in Montreal, registered in 1936, 9 years after his apparent naturalization.
