L. M. Meriwether Rites At Hydro
Funeral services were held at Hydro for Lafayette Monroe Meriwether, 91, who died Friday afternoon in Hydro. Rev. Dean Wynn conducted the services from the First Methodist Church and burial was in Greenwood cemetery in Weatherford.
He had lived in Hydro since 1961 and had been in ill health for the past six years.
Born Feb. 8, 1876 in Marengo, Ind., he grew to manhood in Indiana. Later he moved to Illois where he worked as a logger. With his brothers he moved to Kansas when the area which is now Kansas City was opened.
Coming to Oklahoma in 1908 he settled at Big Pasture and later homesteaded near Fredrick. He was married to Miss Alta Smith in 1918 and they farmed north of Grandfield until 1944 when they moved to Walters. Mrs. Weather died in 1964.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Winifred Self of Hydro and Mrs. Byrl Kelly of Altus, a son, Arthur L. Meriwether of Freeport Texas and seven grandchildren.

Meriwether Rites on Monday
Funeral Services for Lafayette Monroe Meriwether, 91, former Walters resident, were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist Church of Hydro With Rev. Dean Wynn, pastor, offiateing.
Services will be concluded at the Greenwood Cemetery at Weatherford with Lockstone Funeral Home in charge.
Meriwether died Friday afternoon in Hydro following an illness of six years. His wife preceded him in death, November 16, 1964.
Meriwether was born in Marengo, Indiana Feb. 8 1876. He grew to manhood in Indiana and moved to Illiois where he worked as a logger on the Wabash River.
At the opening of the area which is now Kansas City, he moved with his brothers to Kansas. He came to Oklahoma in 1908 at the opening of the Big Pasture country homesteading near Fredrick and farming in Tillman County.
He was married to Miss Alta Smith April 21 1918. They farmed north of Grandfield until 1944 when they moved to Walters. They went to Hydro in 1961, where he continued farming.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Winfred Self of Hydro and Mrs. Byrl Kelly of Altus, one son, Arthur L. Meriwether of Freeport, Texan and seven grandchildren.
