Antonio Cedillo de Rojas

Enumerated in the 1750 census at Albuquerque p 74 - household #8 - Antonio Sedillo, corporal from the Santa Fe Presidio MU 50, wife Gregoria Gonzales S 37 8 Children Maria 19, Alfonsa 14, Lazaro 14, Antonio 10, Francisca 8, Juana 6, Josefa 1; and and Andres 2 days.

Antonio was approved for an Hispano private land grant, by Gov. Pedro Fermín de Mendinueta, on April 20, 1769. It was known as Cañada de los Apaches and claimed 152,879 acres.

Antonio Sedillo was baptized 9 October 1704 in Bernalillo; his Godparents were Martin Hurtado and Maria Hurtado. Antonio married Gregoria Gonzalez before August 1726. Antonio and Gregoria were marriage sponsors for the marriage of Francisco Garcia to Maria de la Candelaria on 19 Aug 1726 at Isleta, indicating that they were married prior to 1726 and were living in the vicinity of the Isleta Pueblo. They were living in the Puesto de San Martin by 1728 and they were enumerated in the 1750 census of La Villa de San Felipe de Albuqerque in household number 8.

In 1761, Antonio Sedillo was among those who petitioned for a land grant at Los Quelites, bordering the settlement of Tomé. The list of settlers requesting the grant, which was approved by the governor and named "El Valle de San Francisco del Valle de Los Quelites", included Antonio Sedillo, Domingo Sedillo, Joaquin Sedillo, Jacinto Barela, José Sánchez, Miguel de San Juan Sedillo, José Gregorio Sedillo, Tadeo Montoya, Joaquin Peralta, Antonio Córdova, Manuel Bustos, Bernardo Lucero and Luis Sánchez. The governor granted the petition with the condition that the settlers construct the "plaza" to certain conditions. If they did not do this, the grant would be null and void. The grant lost settlers because they could not grow crops on the arid land. Indian raids became so bad the rest of the settlers were forced to move back to the river area.

Antonio Sedillo submitted a petition in 1769 asking for a grant of land bordering the previous grant, which he called La Cañada de los Apaches. The grant was approved by the governor, and Antonio Sedillo was placed in possession of the land on 25 April 1769.

Antonio and Gregoria González Sedillo were the parents of twelve children: Juana Maria, Ana, Andrés de Castala, Javiera, Maria, Alfonsa, Lázaro, Antonio Félix, Francisca de la Luz, Juana Maria, Josefa and Ana Francisca de los Delores Sedillo.
