The United States will hold a presidential election on November 5, 2024. This will be the 60th presidential election in United States history, and the first to be held after the reallocation of electoral college votes following the 2020 redistricting cycle.[1] The winner of the 2024 presidential election will be sworn into office on January 20, 2025.

The Democratic National Convention will take place in Chicago, Illinois, from August 19-22, 2024.

Republicans

The Republican Party selected former President Donald Trump (R) as its 2024 presidential nominee at the 2024 Republican National Convention, which was held from July 15-18, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Independent & Third Party

  • Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Independent), withdrew from the Democratic primary and announced he would run as an independent on October 9, 2023.
  • Chase Oliver (Libertarian Party), a candidate in the 2022 Georgia U.S. Senate race, announced his candidacy on April 4, 2023.

Discussion

This is the first election election cycle in American history where some of the candidates are both publicly embracing the use of disinformation, calling it free speech, and suggesting that parts of the US Constitution be suspended.
The Republican Central Committee requires its candidates to make a pledge to support the eventual Party nominee.
